Our Story
A Legacy Evolving,
A Wine Refining.

1998
The Founding
In 1998, Eddie Hirsch purchased a picturesque property in the Yarra Valley, inspired by a vision of breeding and racing Thoroughbreds. His brother Jack Hirsch joined him in supporting and developing the venture. The lush, rolling hills and fertile soil soon revealed potential far beyond their original ambitions, laying the foundation for what would one day become Hirsch Hill.

1999
Planting the Seeds of Change
Recognising the exceptional viticultural promise of the property, the Hirsch family began planting their first grapevines in 1998. Their dedication, attention to detail, and growing passion for winemaking soon bore fruit, culminating in the harvest of their inaugural vintage in 2001.

2004
Growth and Commercial Success
With growing confidence and local recognition, Hirsch Hill shifted focus to commercial wine sales, successfully introducing its wines to restaurants and bottle shops across the Yarra Valley and Melbourne’s inner suburbs. The family’s next generation played a pivotal role during this period, combining strategic vision with operational acumen to guide the brand’s growth.

2006
Expansion and Industry Recognition
This period marked a turning point as Hirsch Hill’s reputation for quality wines solidified. Careful vineyard expansion and refined winemaking practices laid the groundwork for continued growth and recognition across the industry.

2020
A New Era Begins
A new chapter began as Ben Hirsch transitioned to the role of General Manager, bringing fresh energy and innovative strategies rooted in his background in sales and marketing. One of his first transformative decisions was to internalise all winemaking operations, culminating in the appointment of Chief Winemaker Peter Mackey in 2022.

2023
Innovation and Expansion
Hirsch Hill conducted its inaugural vintage with Chief Winemaker Peter Mackey, focusing on small-batch winemaking and precision craftsmanship. The conversion of an old horse stable into a functional winery underscored the innovative spirit of this new era. During this time, Ben Hirsch became CEO, leading the business into its next phase of growth with a focus on quality, innovation, and long-term vision.

2024
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The acquisition of a historic Yarra Valley winery, formerly operated by Sticks and Greenstone, marked another milestone. Following extensive renovations and upgrades, the site now operates as a modern, versatile facility supporting both Hirsch Hill’s own winemaking and client production services.

Current Day
People and Infrastructure
Today, the business has evolved into Hirsch Wine Group, reflecting its expansion across several brands, and winemaking, bottling, and storage services. The company continues to grow under the leadership of Ben Hirsch (CEO) and Peter Mackey (Chief Winemaker), supported by a skilled team including winemakers, laboratory staff, cellar hands, and operations professionals. Together, they drive innovation and uphold Hirsch Hill’s enduring reputation for excellence.
